HARTFORD, CT | The Theta Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in Hartford, CT actively participated in the sorority's partner initiative "Soles for Little Souls," in support of the SPEAR Foundation, by donating a total of 163 pairs of new Champion brand designer shoes valued at a total of $5,705 on December 13, 2022. The donations benefited The Village of Families and Children, as well as The Consortium’s Salasin Project (Western Mass).
The Village was one of the first agencies in the country to provide homes for neglected children. Today, they continue to achieve their mission “to build a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children” by providing a full range of behavioral health, early childhood and youth development, substance use treatment and support services for children, adults and families in the Greater Hartford, Connecticut region.
The Salasin Project provides individual support and opportunities to build community to survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Additionally, on March 27, 2023, the chapter received a $500 bonus donation from the SPEAR Foundation to continue its assistance of the chosen agencies and further support The Village with two (2) $250.00 gift cards from Famous Footwear to purchase more shoes for the residents.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and SPEAR traditionally teams up to provide new shoes to children in local homeless shelters. The goal of the national shoe drive, “Soles for Little Souls,” is to give away 100,000 pairs of shoes to children in every community where Sigma Gamma Rho chapters exist. Distribution typically take place simultaneously nationwide. For more information on the program, visit The Spear Foundation.
